Residential Tenancies Act
In this VLOG on the amendments to the Residential Tenancies Act, Marcus discusses what this means for tenants and landlords in the residential space.
Are you eligible?
To be eligible, you must prove a 25% decline in your total household income. And this total decline must be an impact of COVID-19. So what this means, if you are eligible is that your landlord has to negotiate in good faith with you before taking any action or administering any notice of termination.
If your lease has expired
Another question that’s arisen is for tenants that are currently out of their lease term, or approaching expiration of their lease. In those circumstances, a landlord must issue a 90-day notice of termination. Originally it was 30 days, and this is now 90 days.
